Radiance September Newsletter |
MESSAGE FROM MASUDA I'm excited about our fall season. We're going to be adding more classes to the fall schedule (starting October 8th) and offering some wonderful workshops.
I'm looking forward to offering "the Artist's Way," workshop in September and being inspired to re-connect with our creative dreams. I teach this workshop to share its tools with others and to remind myself to have fun, to play, and to stay true to my dreams.
One thing I've learned is that our dreams never go away. We may hide or suppress them, but they never disappear. This is an opportunity to play with our creative dreams and open ourselves to possibilities.
I look forward to sharing a magical fall season with all of you.
Much Love,
Masuda |

BOOK CLUB Three Cups of Tea by Greg Mortenson
Monday, September 14, 2009
7:30 - 9:00pm
Free Community Event!
In 1993 a mountaineer named Greg Mortenson drifted into an impoverished Pakistan village in the Karakoram mountains after a failed attempt to climb K2. Moved by the inhabitants' kindness, he promised to return and build a school.
Three Cups of Tea is the story of that promise and its extraordinary outcome. Over the next decade Mortenson built not just one but fifty-five schools - especially for girls - in the forbidding terrain that gave birth to the Taliban. His story is at once a riveting adventure and a testament to the power of the humanitarian spirit. |

TEACHER SPOTLIGHT Marilyn Hyde
Marilyn teaches kundalini yoga on Saturdays from 12:45-2:00pm.
Hometown:
Wooster, Ohio
Childhood Ambition:
Be a puppeteer! Be a dancer! Live on a big farm and have horses. Live in a big city and write stories!
Favorite Yoga Pose and Why:
I'm kind of afraid of the back bending postures like Camel and Wheel, but I love the energizing affect they have on me and they make me feel courageous.
Life Changing Moment:
My dad'ss last breath and my mom's too, for that matter. Also my yoga teacher training which helped me lead more from my heart.
One Thing You Want Students
to Experience in Your Class:
I like to help students understand the reason for doing any particular posture. I like to help them get the connection between a movement and it's physiological outcome. This seems especially important with Kundalini yoga, where, let's face it, some of the postures are a little whacky! It's important to understand that what you're doing with your hands for ten minutes can affect the brain and the heart.
Perfect Day:
Doing something physical and creative with other people, like playing music or dancing, followed by lots of wonderful food and drink, and topped off with a live performance by funny people.
Indulgence:
Food! All kinds! Chocolate. Sweets. Butter! Anything to put butter on. Potatoes. Let's not forget cheese!
Biggest Challenge:
Teaching yoga was a huge challenge for me. It took several years after teacher training to get up the courage - getting up in front of people is rather scary.
Inspiration::
I'm pretty inspired by courage, by people who always honor their convictions regardless of how scary or uncomfortable the situation. Click here to register online. |
STUDENT SPOTLIGHT Elizabeth Baker
Hometown:
Santa Barbara, California
What Got You in Trouble Most as a Child:
Not brushing my teeth,or pinching my sibling's in self defense of course.
Perfect Day:
Start off with some yoga, followed by a coffee or tea, then spend the day at the beach in Santa Barbara, and end the day with some sushi with friends.
Favorite Spot in Old Town:
Other than Radiance, of course, I would have to sat the trifecta on Royal Street: Grape and the Bean, Lavender Moon Cupcakes, and the Shoe Hive.
Best Gift Ever:
Honestly the first three months of yoga at Radiance from my mom.
Two words that best describe you:
Focused and Jubliant
Favorite Yoga Pose:
I have a love hate relationship with Frog pose. I hate doing it (and I can barely do all of the ones I am suppose to do) but it does make me feel great after. I also love childs pose since it is so relaxing.
Favorite Mantra:
Wahe Guru - because it is just really fun to say.
Best Yoga Advice:
Breathe! |
