Radiance July Newsletter |
MESSAGE FROM MASUDA I'm excited to announce our one year anniversary at Radiance Yoga. I'm so grateful for all of you -- students, teachers, and staff for helping us to survive and grow in our first year.
Getting to know all of you and sharing in your experiences has been the most rewarding part of the process. Learning accounting sklls has been the least rewarding.
Join us on July 25th for an afternoon of free yoga classes and an evening of festivities.
Much love and gratitude,
Masuda |

BOOK CLUB Siddhartha by Herman Hesse
Monday, August 3, 2009
7:30 - 9:00pm
Free Community Event!
In a very simple prose Herman Hesse has conveyed a very profound message for all seekers. This is a story of a brahmin boy who follows his heart and goes through various lives to finally understand what it means to be enlightened.
Siddhartha experiences life as a pious brahmin, a Samana, a rich merchant, a lover, an ordinary ferryman, and a father -- each life bringing a new awakening, bringing him closer to the truth until he finally is one with Buddha. |

TEACHER SPOTLIGHT Jodi Knauer Darlage
Jodi teaches Beginners Flow Yoga, Flow Yoga Mix, and Yin Yoga.
Hometown:
West Chester, Ohio (Suburb of Cincinnati)
Childhood Ambition:
To become a fish or maybe a dolphin. Seriously. I lived at our neighborhood pool in the summer time. The lifeguards had to bribe my friends and me with candy to leave. I ended up becoming a scuba diver which is close enough.
Favorite Yoga Pose and Why:
Supta Virasana (reclined hero pose). I love how this pose opens the knees, quads and ankles. I love how the challenges from supta virasana change with the day just as our life's challenges change daily. How we react & respond to those challenges is where we begin to truly cultivate an awareness of ourselves and we begin to learn our greatest life lessons.
Life Changing Moment:
Leaving my full-time marketing and public relations career with a stellar company last summer to follow my passion to teach yoga. And of course marrying my high school sweetie. This was written in no particular order of importance...
One Thing You Want Students
to Experience in Your Class:
A sense of awareness, release and peace. Approach each class and each pose without judgment of oneself and without expectations.
Perfect Day:
Morning yoga, walking for miles and discovering hidden gems in NYC, San Fran, Florence, Italy- or any other lovely European city, a 2-hour massage (because 1-hour is just not long enough), and a yummy vegan, organic or seafood dinner in the company of wonderful friends & family.
Indulgence:
Lots of Travel. Good chocolate. Trips to the spa. Vegan baked goodies.
Biggest Challenge:
Finding stillness.
What's Playing on Your Ipod:
On Wings of Song & Robert Gass, Camille, Chris Bathgate, Chintan & Prem Joshua and David Stringer.
Inspiration:
I am inspired by the words of Pema Chodron, by the little acts of kindness from friends, family and strangers and by the beauty and wonders of life.
Jodi Teaches:
Tuesdays
10:00-11:15am Beginners Flow
Fridays
12:15-1:15pm Flow Yoga Mix
Saturday, August 22nd
2:30-4:30pm Yin Yoga Workshop |
STUDENT SPOTLIGHT Noni Kieffer
Hometown:
Arlington, Massachusetts.
What Got You in Trouble Most as a Child:
In school I used to doodle. All my homework pages had scribbles on them. At home I was always in trouble because I never agreed with my Mom.
Perfect Day:
My perfect day starts at the park where Lily (my dog) and I spend quality time with our friends. After breakfast it's oil painting for a few hours, another quick walk with Lily, yoga, and a quiet dinner in the garden with J.
Favorite Spot in Old Town:
This might sounds strange, but my favorite spot is the cemetary - it is so beautiful and so peaceful.
Best Gift Ever:
The best gift was my son and daughter coming home to spend time with me when my husband, (not their dad) died. My daughter brought me a teddy bear from England. I had never had a teddy bear.
Two words that best describe you:
I'm a procrastinator and really shy.
Favorite Yoga Pose:
My favorite pose is plow and shoulder stand. Plow pose opens my back and re-aligns it, and the shoulder stand feels great.
Favorite Mantra:
My favorite mantra is SSS: Stretch, Strengthen, and Smile.
Best Yoga Advice:
Sure beats going to the gym!!! |
