Radiance June Newsletter |
MESSAGE FROM MASUDA It's been a strange month of mishaps. I lost my keys, my wallet was stolen, one of the toilets at the studio broke, the stereo died, and a runner almost knocked me out while I was walking to work.
What am I to make of all this? Sometimes I think these things shouldn't happen to me because I practice yoga and meditation. Somehow my yoga practice should protect me from all ill will and misfortune.
Then I remember the words of my teacher who said, "Practicing yoga helps us cope with the hard times." We practice so that we can stay grounded and aware when faced with difficulty.
I welcome you to join me for classes and workshop this month as we move through the ups and downs of life.
Much Love,
Masuda
P.S.
Starting June 23rd Masuda will be teaching a Kundalini Yoga Beginners class on Tuesday nights at 7:30pm.
Starting July 6th Jolene will be teaching a Yin Yoga class on Thursday nights at 7:30pm. |

BASIC PRINCIPALS FROM THE ARTIST WAY 1. Creativity is the natural order of life. Life is energy: pure creative energy.
2. There is an underlying, in-dwelling creative force infusing all of life-including ourselves.
3. When we open ourselves to our creativity, we open ourselves to the creator'S creativity within us and our lives.
4. We are, ourselves, creations. And we, in turn, are meant to continue creativity by being creative ourselves.
5. Creativity is God's gift to us. Using our creativity is our gift back to God.
6. The refusal to be creative is self-will and is counter to our true nature.
7. When we open ourselves to exploring our creativity, we open ourselves to God: good orderly direction.
8. As we open our creative channel to the creator, many gentle but powerful changes are to be expected.
9. It is safe to open ourselves up to greater and greater creativity.
10. Our creative dreams and yearnings come from a divine source. As we move toward our dreams, we move toward divinity.
Masuda will be leading a workshop on the Artist Way from August 16-November 8, 2009. Click here for more information |

STUDENT SPOTLIGHT Lori Welch
Hometown:
I grew up in Woodbridge, VA, but I have spent most of my life right here in Alexandria. I was born at Alexandria Hospital.
What Got You in Trouble Most as a Child:
Never got in trouble. I was PERFECT! (Luckily I had 3 older brothers who made me look good). At least until I turned 16.
Perfect Day:
Wake up and meditate then practice a few of my favorite yoga poses. Head out to St. Elmo's for a leisurely cup of coffee and scan the Style section. Go for a nice invigorating run. Meet up w/friends for lunch and then perhaps take in a nap, read or write.
Favorite Spot in Old Town:
Torn between Radiance Yoga and O'Connell's - it's the yin and the yang.
Best Gift Ever:
Strand of pearls which was a surprise from my Mom and Dad.
Favorite Yoga Pose:
Tree Pose. If I'm successful, it makes me feel centered and grounded. If I'm wobbly - which I am most of the time - it reminds me that I need to practice being still.
Favorite Mantra:
Let go; let God.

The thing or things you are resisting are probably what you need the most. |
