Radiance April Newsletter |
MESSAGE FROM MASUDA I spent last weekend hiking in the Shenandoah mountains with my husband. We talked about the weather, the trail, our happy dog, our dreams for the future, bears, and if we could ever live in the country. We were able to fully relax and enjoy the two days away from home.
I thought this relaxed state would continue thru the week. However after writing some bills and cleaning the studio, I found myself tensing up. I wanted to be back in the country and pretend I didn't have a care in the world. I was resisting the moment and my responsibilities.
I did a simple thing and shifted my focus to our new intention board. I smiled at the things students had written. I had written down three intentions, "Truth, Compassion, and Wisdom." When I focused on these principles I shifted from feeling resistant to feeling inspired. I realized I'm here for a reason. The more connected I stay to that reason, the more energy I have and the more engaged I am in my day to day life.
The intention board is a simple tool to keep us focused on the greater meaning of our life. I want Radiance Yoga to be a place where we can discover and connect more deeply with our purpose.
May we grow into our intentions this spring season and share in each others light.
Much Love,
Masuda

TEACHER SPOTLIGHT Sat Kartar
Sat Kartar teaches Kundalini Yoga on Tuesday evenings. He teaches with compassion, wisdom, and humor. His classes are both challenging and relaxing. Sat Kartar creates a safe and inspiring space for students to grow physically, mentally, and spiritually.
Hometown:
Brooklyn, New York
Childhood Ambition:
I loved all creatures in the natural world. This led to a desire to protect and help all wildlife.
Favorite Yoga Pose and Why:
Baby/Child's pose. Practice it for 62 minutes and you'll know exactly where you're at. Yogi Bhajan said about the pose, "Where you bow, you will be blessed."
Life Changing Moment:
The decision to grow my hair and beard and to wear a turban. This is part of the being a Sikh. Sikhism is a major world religion which began in India during the 16th century. My journey on this path began in 1975.
One Thing You Want Students to Experience in Your Class:
To really relax. I consider it a high compliment when someone snores during deep relaxation.
Perfect Day:
Rise early, practice sadhana which means daily practice of yoga and chanting followed by a nap. A day at the beach, in the sand, in the waves, on a sail boat, on a boogie board. A long shower, good food, and ending with a video or off to the movies.
Indulgence:
Flourless chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream.
Biggest Challenge:
Understanding the power of the spoken word. I can sometimes speak before knowing the impact of those words. It can be dangerous.
What's Playing on Your Ipod:
Lately Snatam Kaur, Guruganesha Singh, and Sada Sat Kaur.I've been known to listen to Bob Marley, Coldplay, the Rolling Stones, and dance tracks from anywhere.
Inspiration:
I get inspiration from from my wife, my teachers life (Yogi Bhajan), my friends, fellow teachers, and the Guru (wisdom) that sits in my heart.
Sat Kartar Teaches:
Tuesdays
6:00-7:15pm Kundalini Yoga
He's also teaching a workshop on April 25th, "Invoke Your Intuitive Mind." |
STUDENT SPOTLIGHT Lindsay Boudreaux
Hometown:
New Orleans, Louisianna
What Two Words Best Describe You:
Flexibile & Intuitive
What Got You in Trouble Most as a Child:
As children, my sister and I shared a bed and we'd often stay up late talking and laughing under the covers, much to the dismay of my father who was in the next room, trying to pay bills.
Perfect Day:
A beautiful spring day in New Orleans, at a crawfish boil with my entire family in someone's backyard, followed by a late afternoon nap. Then po-boys at the Parkway Bakery & Tavern for dinner, followed by the Rebirth Brass Band at the Maple Leaf...dancing until we collapse!
Favorite Spot in Old Town:
Restaurant Eve, Grape & Bean, Radiance Yoga, Fontaine Creperie and just being near the water.
Best Gift Ever:
A suprise trip to the Hotel del Coronado in California, planned by my then boyfriend, soon to be fiance and now husband, Nathan. He called my boss in advance to ask for time off on my behalf. It was truly a memorable way to become engaged.
Favorite Yoga Pose:
I love headstands. It took me several years to work up the courage to be able to do it. I love it becasue it is the physical embodiment of fear conquered. Even though I have practiced it for years, the pose still challenges me. It is an inspiration for me in my daily life when I am faced with difficult situations.
Favorite mantra:
Om. Peace. I just love the simplicity of it.
Best Yoga Advice:
Yoga is not something you're "good at or not good at." It's a journey of self discovery and healing. |
