MESSAGE FROM MASUDA

It's time to come out of hibernation and enjoy the spring season. Spring is a time of renewal and transition. I like to mark the season with a few rituals to help me ease into the warmer weather, and accommodate the shifts in my own mind and body.

I wanted some type of cleanse to release any negative energy I had stored from the winter months. I decided to visit a Korean bath house and sign up for the house special, which was a body scrub and massage. For the first few minutes the body scrub felt awkward and painful, but as soon as I relaxed I began to enjoy it. At the end I felt light and very connected to my body.

I am also beginning the season with a 40-day meditation to replace some of the habits I had acquired this winter such as hibernating at home and eating lots of bread and chocolate. I chose a simple meditation for bringing prosperity and support into my life and I have enjoyed practicing it every morning. I meditate for 11-31 minutes depending on the demands of the day.

Finding a way to cleanse negative energy and starting a 40-day meditation are simple ways to change old habits and invite new possibilities into your life. I encourage you to welcome the spring season with your own rituals. Your body and mind will appreciate it.

Much Love,
Masuda

Just as atoms form into molecules and molecules into cells, so the self is made up of a multiplicity of sub-personalities, or energy patterns. We can either communicate with these energy patterns, or we can manipulate them through our way of life. Manipulation eventually leads to loss of touch with the Self; engaging in dialogue with these energy patterns is the beginning of awareness. Kundalini yoga is the yoga of awareness.

Join Sunder Singh and Kartar Singh in a process to explore and experience the Awakened Self. The self is the vehicle for our awakening. The question is not the casting aside or the transcending of the self, but rather how to change one's viewpoint. The awareness we experience right now is the awareness of our Awakened Self; however, instead of being present with our awareness, we often escape the present into the past, the future, and the attachment to I, me, mine, and others. This course will help set you on a foundation to become master of your Self.

STUDENT SPOTLIGHT

Steve Felber

Hometown:
My family and I moved a dozen times before settling in Manassas, Virginia. I was 13 at the time so I consider this to be my hometown.

What Got You in Trouble Most as a Child:
I would make a joke in class. This would result in the whole class exploding in laughter.

Perfect Day:
Wake up after a good night's sleep. Greet a cool dry morning during a morning walk with our dog Lily. Have a quiet breakfast with my wife, Fran. Continue the day with morning yoga, lunch, a massage, a nap, another walk with Lily, a nice dinner with Fran, meditation, and an evening where anything can happen, topped off with the final walk of the day.

Favorite Spot in Old Town:
Our home.

Best Gift Ever:
A phone call from Fran with the news of her pregnancy.

Favorite Yoga Pose:
Svaroopa yoga's supported fish pose. This requires a series of yoga poses that lead up to this pose. Once this pose is achieved, a sense of clam and radiance is felt. A series of poses are then performed after this pose to balance the flow.

Favorite mantra:
SAT NAM. Truth is my identity and I call upon the eternal truth that resides in all of us.

Best Yoga Advice:
Surrender with a sense of acceptance, not defeat.
