November Newsletter |
MESSAGE FROM MASUDA I'm very excited to tell you about our first holiday service project coming up on Wednesday, December 10th. We're going to be working with New Hope Housing, which is a homeless shelter in Alexandria. We're asking teachers and students to join us for a couple of hours to create a love filled holiday event for the children who live there. Details about the event are described below under the holiday service project section.
There are many different ways to experience yoga, which means union. One path of yoga focuses on seva, which is a Sanskrit word meaning selfless action. Seva allows us to practice our yoga in the world by serving those who are in need. This practice can help us experience a deeper union with ourselves, others, and spirit.
I hope you can join us for this wonderful evening. The holiday season is a great time to be generous with our time and our hearts.
I wish all of you a delicious Thanksgiving with friends and family.
Love,
Masuda |

Hometown:
Northern Virginia. I currently reside in Reston.
Childhood Ambition:
I wanted to be a shoe designer! I used to spend hours designing funky shoes.
Favorite Yoga Pose and Why:
My favorite pose is Ustrasana - Camel Pose. I often refer to Camel Pose as the "ultimate buzz pose" because of the energetic effects the pose gives you. It's a complete heart opener - physically, mentally and spiritually!
Life Changing Moment:
Watching my grandson, Logan, come into this world. Absolutely no words could describe how seeing his face for the first time made me feel.
One Thing You Want Students to Experience in Your Class:
Absolute, pure joy.
Perfect Day:
Rise early, enjoy a long cup of tea, take a morning walk, take a yoga class for myself, speak with my children, read a book, watch the sunset, and smiling when pulling the covers up around me.
Indulgence:
Robek's Awesome Acai Smoothie
Biggest Challenge:
Sitting still.
Inspiration:
My senior students in their yoga practice. These are the strongest, most determined group of students I have ever worked with. Yoga is the fountain of youth!

What Got You in Trouble Most as a Child:
Thinking outside the box.
Perfect Day:
A day without any schedule or demands. Go for a walk, have coffee in Old Town, knit, sketch, read, and practice yoga.
Favorite Spot in Old Town:
Walking by the river, Sacred Circle, and of course Radiance Yoga.
Best Gift Ever:
A hug when I really need one.
Favorite Yoga Pose:
Corpse pose - because it's the time I remind myself that not doing anything is also beneficial.
Favorite mantra:
Pavan Pavan.
