Radiance Yoga Newsletter |
MESSAGE FROM MASUDA I experienced a magical moment at the yoga studio last Sunday. I had finished teaching the meditation class and was checking in students for the next class. Four students sat on the cushions sipping tea, eating oatmeal cookies, and talking about the meditation we had just practiced. Other students were sitting on the benches and laughing about how sore they were from the previous week's class. I assured them that today's class would be easier.
I felt a joyous energy in the room. This had been my dream. I wanted to create a beautiful space in which people practiced yoga and meditation, came together in conversation, opened themselves up to the teachings, and to learning from each other.
I smile when a student comes into our studio, looks around, takes a deep sigh, and relaxes. I believe that on some level we're all looking for that place to relax, to be ourselves, to laugh, to heal, and to discover new possibilities.
In my own life I didn't always have the tools or the relationships to help me through the hard times. My family escaped from Afghanistan when I was seven years old and I found myself in a foreign land having to learn a new language and new customs. As an Afghan-American I struggled much of my life with finding a place to belong and to be accepted. When I started practicing yoga I found a sense of home in the teachings and the practice helped me to feel peaceful. Each time I notice a student transition to a more peaceful state I experience a sense of healing within myself.
I want to thank all of you who have helped to create a warm and beautiful community here.
I hope you join me for an exciting fall session with new classes in the mornings and at lunch time, new classes for children and seniors, wonderful workshops with talented teachers, and new varieties of tea and cookies to enjoy after class.
Love,
Masuda |
